Voice Mashups Can Be Risky Business

A Pat Phelan post over the weekend got me thinking about the “dark side” of voice mashup’s; what happens when one of the API’s or providers goes down.
You see, Pat and his partners recently launched Twitterfone (which I love) but due to all of the problems Twitter has had keeping their service live, Twitterfone has been rendered useless.
Now, maybe this case is extreme, but for those of you who might be thinking of investing in a business based on another’s service or mashing one service with another, make sure that you are confident in the availability and uptime of the service(s).
For those consultants or VAR’s out there creating voice mashups for your clients, what precautions do you take to ensure that any “mission critical” voice mashup’s you create, won’t go down?
