O2 blocks Rebtel Access Numbers in Germany

The advancements in voip industries have made calls rates very cheap but O2 in Germany don’t seems ready to face the competition. Unfortunately O2 has decided to block Rebtel in Germany. People in Germany having O2 connection could not call Rebtel local German numbers during several days.

Rebtel is one of the leading voip providers present today. Large number of people all around world use Rebtel to make cheap phone calls. Rebtel allows free calls t many destinations. They have many a times come up with free calling offers for countries like India, Philippines. Remember our Free 60 minutes voucher code for India ( in collaboration with Rebtel). The step taken by O2 don’t seem a pleasant one.

However, as a temporary solution Rebtel have set up new number series for Germany which means you should be able to create new local numbers to your friends in other countries again. However your old local numbers to existing friends have been changed. I guess since O2 in Germany was charging very high calling rates and as a consequence more and more people were shifting to Rebtel. I think this step will not only create a bad image about O2 but also weaken their customer base.

I believe that coming trend will be of Voip and local telecom providers should accept this. When internet now meets telecom, operators are going to have to change or die.

People will definitely go for cheap/Free calling options. I hope O2 in Germany, accept the fact and find some other ways to sustain in the market. I hope O2 Germany allow Rebtel access soon.

The day is not far when calls to maximum destinations will be free.
