Being “offline” is a great way to think about the online world. Over the last two days “offline” (for the most part) I have been thinking a lot about the online world, most specifically about how, in a world that is continuosly changing, does a marketer keep up with the changing ways in which people consume content online.

The iPhone’s VoIP capability is a dud.
When I first got my iPhone I was giddy over the prospects of being able to leverage the phone’s WiFi capabilities to send and receive WiFi calls. As it quickly approaches one year with my iPhone, I realize that not much has changed and that the promise that the iPhone once held for mobile voip caling is dwindling with each day.

I got an interesting piece of mail from the folks at Google today. It was an offer for $250 worth of Google Adwords. While this isn’t the first time I have gotten a mailer like this, what struck me as odd is that the company name on the mailing address was “SIP TO THE SKYPE NETWORK” a company I have zero affiliation with, but whose offering is, to say the least, “very targeted” to someone in my industry and profession. By now you have probably heard about Nortel’s acquisition of Pingtel, what it means for open source telephony and all of the other blah that comes with a large company acquiring another company with open source roots (and community) during a less then “hot” period for VoIP related news.
