Hi,
The concept of Mobile number portability is still a concept in India, and is yet to be implemented. I guess many of you must be thinking to switch your mobile service provider but won’t be doing that as you don’t want to loose your mobile number.
Soon, if you are not satisfied with your mobile service provider (may be rates are high, or may be there are no schemes or for any other reason), then you will easily be able switch to some other mobile service provider that too without loosing your mobile number and keeping the same.
Mobile number portability simple means that Mobile number will not be permanently associaed with any provider. I guess this type concept is highly benicificial both for the customers and for mobile service providers.
Many a times people don’t join a new service provider just because they will be loosing their mobile number (which they don’t want to). This way a already grown network keeps growing and leaves no room for a new service provider. Mobile number portability will remove monopoly of these service providers.
Department of Telecom (DoT) has invited bids from companies with worldwide experience to implement MNP in India. It is expected that customers will be to access this facility in the second half of 2009.
DoT has also revealed that TRAI will decide the amount which customer will have to pay. In 2006, Trai had recommended that consumers pay between Rs 200 and Rs 300 every time he/she wants to change their service provider.
Lets just hope that MNP is launched in India soon.
Cheers.

Hi,
A good number of Indians live in France, actually the number of NRI’s in this world is a big number and this is the reason voip provides specially target Asian market.
If you are living in France, then a free.fr has a deal for you. Free.fr is a France based internet, television services and telecom provider. Free.fr has recently launched a promotion in which it is giving Internet, television and telephone (here the big deal), all this for just 29.99 Euros per month.
By taking the above said offer, you will be able to make unlimited phone calls (landlines only) to about 87 countries. Offcourse, India is included in the list. This offer will enable you to make unlimited free calls to India. As the telecom provider is quite big (offering all three services), voice quality should be good.
I guess, you must be already paying a lot more than 30 Euros for these three things (Internet, TV and phone bills), and this deal will help you save a lot of money. Additionally since you will be getting all these services from one provider only, getting hold of customer support (if there is any need) won’t be of much pain.
Well, from past few months we have seen that many voip providers have really lowered their price to call India with some offering free calls. I think day should not be far when one will be able to make unlimited free calls to India. (Though, it is already very cheap nowdays).

Hi,
With Airtel, Reliance, Tata communications in the voip market this is expected to happen. Stiff competition and launch of one offer by one voip provider leads to other voip providers following the same.
A few days back, Airtel started its Republic day cheap calling offer to India and now Tata communication’s Trueroots has launched its Republic day offer.
To celebrate 60th year of Indian Republic, trueroots brings a nice offer. Now you can talk more to family & friends. Sign up or re-charge your account & choose from any one of the talk plans. In all these talkplans, you will get additional free talktime thereby reducing your effective calling rate. The more you choose to buy; the better is the value of free talk time.
A few points to be noted here are -:
- Offer is valid for both new sign-ups and recharges.
- You can refer your friends and get additonal talktime.
Now coming back to the plan, If you sign up your account with $5 credit you will get normal talktime of 72.5 min and free talktime of 50 minutes which makes your effective rate to call India of 4cents/min. For different plans, you will get different free talktime bt effective rate is around 4 cents only.
Not to mention about the good voice quality, good customer support Trueroots.us offers. Other features include -
- Speed Dial 10 numbers
- Auto Recharge
- Pin-less Dialing
- Competitive Rates

Overall a nice cheap calling offer to India by Trueroots.us

Hi,
We have posted about some Indian voip providers giving minutes to call USA, Canada etc but have you ever wondered how much profitable will it be use voip for STD calls in India.
Though voip services in India ain’t much advanced, still using softphones for making PC to Phone calls is legal or using SIP devices for making voip calls is also legal.
When I say using voip for making STD calls, I don’t refer to using Indian voip providers like MTNL, or sifytalk but actually I refer to those voip providers offering cheap calls to India.
Let me come to the point. I live in Delhi and local mobile to mobile calls cost about Rs 1/min (2.3 cents/min) and STD calls cost about Rs 1.3-1.5 /min (3-4 cents/min). (These rates are for a normal mobile plan without any addon package).
Though the above rates don’t seem much costly but actually considering voip rates, there is still lot of scope for cost reduction.
Now consider the rates by voip providers like Nymgo, Mediaringtalk and other cheap voip services. Nymgo offers a calling package (1750 min at just $19.99 per month), effective rates comes out to 1.13 cents/min (Rs 0.5/min). Mediaringtalk offers PC to Phone calls to India at just 1.9cents/min (Rs 1/min).
STD rate in India -: Rs 1.5
Nymgo rate to call India -: Rs .5
Per minute saving -: Rs 1
For 1750 minutes you save -: Rs 1750 (my god…..!!!)
Comparing voip and standard calling rates in India. simple maths shows you can save lot of bucks if you use services like Nymgo and Mediaringtalk for making your local and STD calls in India.
Q. These services are PC to Phone. I prefer phone to phone. And what about voice quality.
Ans. About voice quality of Nymgo and Mediaringtalk, let me tell you it is good. These are quite known service with good customer support.
Yes these are PC to Phone, but you can easily get Nymgo SIP settings and use your SIP device for making Phone to Phone calls. If its possible for you to use PC to Phone calls, then its just great. However there are many other voip providers (phone to Phone calls) offering cheap calls to India. You can try them.
Q. So, should I go for voip for my STD and local calling needs..?
Ans. If you are a business guy, making lot of calls each month then Nymgo is best for you (monthly package) but if you make less calls each month then you can go for Mediaringtalk (1.9cents/min) and if you make very less calls each month then you should remain with your mobile service provider only (for your calling needs) and wait for the time when voip calls in India become free (or try those offering free calls to India.)
Guys do share your views about the above plan, What do you think should we Indians start using voip for making Local and STD calls….?
Cheers.

Hi,
Pc to Phone voip calling services have always been favorite among callers. Voice quality and rates are the two major concerns. Mediaringtalk has been the leader of such service but lately many other voip provider are offering better deals.
One such voip provider, actually a complete social networking (both on PC and mobile) named Youtring is offering very cheap Pc to Phone calls to India.
Youtring is complete social networking website, similar to Orkut and Ibibo but I guess has many more options. You can use Youtring on both your mobile phone (mcommunity) and PC. Apart from that it has features like blogs, groups, videos, sms etc etc.
Today we will be discussing about Youtring PC to Phone calling feature. Youtring allow all its users to download a free software (softphone) names Tringpad. With Tringpad you can make Pc to Phone calls.
I am unaware if it also gives some free credit to test their service. However the calling rates are very cheap.
Youtring has different PC to Phone calling plans to different countries. For example, to Call India, youtring offers Tring India plan under which it offers Call to India at just 1.9 cents/min.
The calling rate of just 1.9 cents/min to Indian mobile is very cheap and I guess the present cheapest in the market.
For calling Pakistan, Youtring offers call rate of just 6.2 cents/min. Youtring also offers cheap calling rates for Middle east and African countries.
Actually, Youtring has much more features and some really good calling plans. You can join Youtring and know more abou it.
